No Nuclear Loan Guarantees
Under the guise of fighting global warming, the nuclear power industry and its allies in Congress are pushing a plan to construct the first new nuclear power plants in the U.S. in decades, and the plan's lynchpin is to make taxpayers the unwilling investors.

New Nationwide Ad Campaign

Senator John McCain’s support for billions of dollars of handouts to corporate polluters is the focus of a new, pre-Earth Day national network media buy.

Friends of the Earth Action will run TV ads across the country and on the web asking McCain to stop trying to add billions of dollars of subsidies for the nuclear industry to the Lieberman-Warner global warming bill. The bill is already a trillion-dollar giveaway for corporate polluters.

Lieberman-Warner

FIX or DITCH the Lieberman-Warner Global Warming Bill
For its massive industry handouts, it asks too little in return

After years of ignoring global warming, the U.S. Senate is finally considering legislation to cap greenhouse gas pollution. Unfortunately, the Lieberman-Warner bill being advanced by Senate Democrats lavishes up to $1 trillion on industries responsible for global warming, and in return asks for reduction targets well below what scientists say are necessary. If this is the best Senate Democrats can do, the world is in trouble.

Friends of the Earth Action is leading the fight to either fix, or ditch, Lieberman-Warner, and we need your help.

Update: Friends of the Earth Action launches ad campaign calling attention to Lieberman-Warner’s flaws.

Don't underwrite the loans

Congressional energy legislation now being considered could force the public to assume financial risk for billions of dollars in notoriously risky nuclear power plant construction.

Unfortunately, opposition to this foolish effort has been weak on Capitol Hill and in the media, which is why Friends of the Earth Action is launching an intense campaign to stop this nuclear push in its tracks -- and we need your help to make it happen.
