Tell Park Service: Wrong Way on Yellowstone!

snowmobiles are dirtyThree separate studies show that current snowmobile use in Yellowstone is damaging the majestic park, yet George Bush's National Park Service (NPS) wants to nearly triple the use of snowmobiles!

This action would nearly triple nitrogen oxide emissions, double hydrocarbon emissions, and push carbon monoxide emissions up 60 percent in the park.

Fortunately, the NPS is taking comments right now on the rule change for snowmobile use. Tell it to reject the "preferred alternative" that would increase the daily number of snowmobiles allowed in the park and instead go with "Alternative 2," which would phase out snowmobiles and transition to snowcoaches.

The sign-on letter below will be sent by us to Yellowstone Superintendent Suzanne Lewis, who is collecting the comments for the NPS. There is also a space below for you to provide your own personal message, if you wish.

5006 April 24, 2009 Dr. Charity Blakely Lutz, FL Keep the snowmobiles out of Yellowstone. Why are a handful of people allowed to destroy the serenity and peace for the masses? These machines serve no purpose for the general public in Yellowstone. The noise scares away the very creatures most people wish to quietly observe in a peaceful ambience. Only rescue personnel should be allowed to use noisy personal snowmobiles within the parks.
5005 April 24, 2009 Carmen Blakely Lutz, FL I have never been to Yellowstone but I know how noisy snowmobiles are, and find they are counter-productive to people who want to visit the park and experience its sights, smells and natural sound. Snowmobiles ruin the park for everyone and terrify wildlife and birds. In Florida, we have the same problem with people on personal water scooters and the terrifying noise affects manatees, fish, bird, porpoise, whales. Loud, gas-guzzling, noisy, smelly mobiles on snow or water ruin the ambience for everyone.
