But being part of Friends of the Earth doesn’t end there.
It means you are part of an organization that believes that the movement to restore, preserve and protect the planet and the fight for justice are part of the same struggle.
It means you stand in solidarity -- at home and abroad -- with communities suffering the impacts of pollution, whose livelihoods are threatened by environmental degradation.
It means you don’t just scratch at the surface of environmental problems -- you tackle the root causes in order to achieve long-term, progressive solutions.
And it means you help to restore our environment and put people -- instead of corporate profits -- back at the center of our economy and our democracy.

Going after root causes means taking the long view of what our planet needs. Sometimes that requires pushing even our politicians out of their comfort zone, calling for policies they find politically inconvenient, like a tax on carbon emissions.
But 42 years after our founding by David Brower, our many victories for people and the planet are guided by his tenacious, principled conviction that, “We are to hold fast to what we believe is right, fight for it, and find allies and adduce all possible arguments for our cause.”
We view it as our job to speak truth to power about what it’s really going to take to save our planet. The more members we have, the louder our voice and the more rapidly we can make progress.
