Take action: Tell Obama to protect clean air
President Obama announced Friday, Sept. 2 that he has asked the EPA to reverse its new smog standards. The standards, required by the Clean Air Act, would have limited pollution that worsens asthma in kids and causes permanent lung damage in adults. The EPA estimated that the standards were likely to have prevented 12,000 early deaths.
Join us in telling President Obama that this is patently unacceptable and that he must reverse his decision. Send him the message below.
I was deeply dismayed by your decision to overrule your own EPA experts and prevent implementation of clean air standards that would have reduced smog and saved 12,000 lives.
Not only would these standards have prevented pollution that makes asthma worse in kids and causes lung damage in adults -- the standards also would have spurred investment in clean technology and created jobs.
President Obama, this decision should have been a no-brainer, but you chose to prioritize the profits of polluting corporations over public health. Your choice to do so was outrageous and unacceptable. I urge you to reconsider.
