Cruise ships release vast quantities of pollution into our coastal and ocean waters. This pollution threatens human health when seafood is contaminated and when swimmers and surfers swallow contaminated water. The pollution also harms marine ecosystems.
* Prohibit discharges of sewage, graywater, and oily bilge water within 12 miles of shore and in protected areas.
* Establish more stringent standards for discharges 12-200 miles from shore.
* Prohibit discaharges of sewage sludge, ash and hazardous waste in U.S. waters.
* Increase monitoring, reporting and inspection.
