Congrats, Hugh Grant, You've Won the Award of Biggest Biofool!

Biofools ResultsHugh Grant! With thousands of votes cast, this year's Biggest Biofool is Hugh Grant, CEO of Monsanto.

Grant has been a long-time supporter of biofuels, insisting, despite evidence to the contrary, that biofuels are good for the environment. In fact, biofuels production contributes to deforestation, biodiversity loss, water and air pollution, and increased greenhouse gas emissions.

The runner up Biofool was Patricia Woertz, CEO of Archer Daniels Midland.

In honor of Biofools Day, we’re calling out some of the biggest perpetrators and promoters of false solutions to climate change and that includes industrial biofuels.

Contrary to what the industry says, the production of industrial biofuels requires significant inputs of fossil fuels, including agricultural fertilizers and pesticides. And, time and time again, peer reviewed scientific analysis has come out stating that in almost all cases, agriculturally produced biofuels are actually worse for the climate than conventional fossil fuels!

We’ve highlighted six major biofuels proponents, including corporations and government representatives, and we’ve dubbed them Biofools.
