Demand Congress protect the Endangered Species Act!

Scientists have concluded that we are in the midst of the sixth wave of extinction. But the Trump Administration clearly thinks protecting species and the environment isn’t important. It would rather have total freedom to greenlight fossil fuel projects that cut through critical species' habitats.

In order to protect our endangered wildlife, your legislators needs to hear from constituents like you!

Dear Legislators,

As a constituent, I am writing to express my strong support for the Endangered Species Act. The Trump Administration has fought to weaken this important law. This would be disastrous for threatened and endangered species that are critical to our environment. I urge you to provide oversight on this issue and work to ensure that the Trump Administration and Congress do not weaken or roll back protections for threatened or endangered species. A poll conducted in 2015 found that regardless of political, regional and demographic lines, 90 percent of American voters support the Endangered Species Act.

The Trump Administration has proposed weakening the ESA in numerous ways -- making it harder to protect species impacted by climate change, easier to remove species from the list, harder to list new species, and harder to designate habitats for species that are threatened or endangered. Among the proposed changes announced is allowing officials to consider economic impacts when enforcing the ESA.

We must not weaken the Endangered Species Act, which is more important than ever as scientists say we are in the midst of the “sixth great extinction,” largely due to human activities. This May, the United Nations released a shocking report showing that over one million species are currently threatened with extinction, and that this decline is happening at an accelerating rate. Pollinators and other insects are dying at an alarming rate, too. A recent global meta-analysis shows that 40 percent of insects face extinction in coming decades, threatening a “catastrophic collapse of ecosystems.” If we weaken the Endangered Species Act, we may lose important species such as the rusty patch bumblebee, the monarch butterfly and countless other plants and animals that are not only iconic but are fundamental to sustaining healthy ecosystems, including those that feed us.

I urge you to reject any attacks on the Endangered Species Act, which is widely supported by U.S. voters and essential to maintaining a healthy environment for future generations.
