Demand your city stop spraying Roundup®!

Monsanto’s Roundup® is pushing pollinators like bees, birds, and butterflies to the brink of extinction. Monarchs have declined by more than 90% since Roundup® was introduced and 75% of farmland bird species are in decline.

But it's doing more than just hurting pollinators -- Monsanto is facing lawsuits from more than 18,000 people because they believe their exposure to RoundUp® caused their cancer. Now we need your help to ban this harmful pesticide.

This is {user_data~First name~a concerned constituent} from {user_data~City}. I urge you and the city to commit to not spraying glyphosate -- the main ingredient in Roundup® -- to protect people and pollinators like bees, birds and butterflies.

Glyphosate is the most widely-used herbicide in the world, yet it is linked to cancer and shorter pregnancies, as well as wide-scale environmental damage. Additionally, glyphosate is the leading driver of monarch butterfly decline. Monarch butterfly populations have fallen by over ninety percent since it hit the market.

Multiple studies show that glyphosate -- widely used along the migration route for monarch butterflies -- is virtually wiping out milkweed, the only food young monarchs eat. Monsanto’s glyphosate is harming our environment and the very ecosystems we depend on for sustainable food and farming systems -- and it’s likely also harming our health.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified glyphosate as a probable carcinogen. In addition, California regulators have included the chemical on the Proposition 65 list of probable carcinogens. Based on decades of evidence, scientists know that glyphosate can cause non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in people. In fact, there are over 40,000 individuals suing Bayer because they believe their exposure to Roundup® caused their cancer. Judges have already ordered Bayer to pay more than $2 billion in damages. Yet EPA is refusing to even label glyphosate as a carcinogen.

29 countries and over 100 cities across the United States have already implemented policies to restrict or ban the use of glyphosate. These new policies were adopted to protect the environment, public health, and vital pollinators, and our city needs to join these leaders.

EPA has continuously reaffirmed that they will not ban Roundup®, so it is up to us to stop spraying to protect people and the planet. The studies are clear -- we need action now. I urge you to make our city a national leader by committing not to spray glyphosate on city parks and other properties.
