Tell the EPA to protect bees and our children from pyrethroid pesticides!

The EPA recently announced plans to make it easier to spray a class of toxic bee-killing pesticides called pyrethroids. These pesticides are linked to the alarming decline of bees, contaminate water, and harm other species.

We can’t let Trump’s EPA keep greenlighting bee-killing pesticides -- we need your help to stop them.

Dear Mr. Keigwin,

Bees and other pollinator populations are declining at alarming rates. I urge you to maintain or enhance, not weaken, current restrictions on the spraying of pyrethroids to help protect our health, pollinators, environment and food supply. The current proposal to weaken restrictions on pyrethroids, requested by a consortium of pesticide corporations, flies in the face of sound, independent science and must not move forward.

A strong body of independent science has found that pyrethroids harm bees and other pollinators as well as non-target aquatic species. These pesticides have also been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders in children, including autism, as well as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

The current proposal being considered by EPA to reduce the allowed buffer between fields sprayed with pyrethroids and bodies of water would put our children’s health, pollinators and aquatic organisms and ecosystems at further risk and must be rejected.

I urge the agency to side with independent science showing that the environmental and public health harms of pyrethroids are unacceptable -- not the pesticide industry. Instead of loosening rules on these toxic pesticides, EPA should be increasing protections for our health and environment.

I urge you to protect pollinators, our environment and our health by maintaining and strengthening current restrictions on pyrethroids, not weakening them.
