No child should go hungry: Tell the Senate to fund school food!

The number of people struggling to feed their children has doubled since the start of the pandemic. Schools are on the frontline to provide sustenance for these hungry students, but they need help.

Congress is moving far too slowly to address this crisis. We need you to demand that your Senators adequately fund school meal programs.

Dear Senator {user_data~Senate Last Name},

As your constituent, I urge you to ensure that our school meal programs are adequately funded throughout the pandemic so that our kids have access to food.

Please do all within your power to ensure that kids don’t go hungry this fall. Specifically, I urge you to:

1)	Ensure every student is fed during the 2021-22 school year by requiring USDA to extend the area eligibility waiver. 
2)	Ensure school food service programs remain fiscally solvent during and after the pandemic. There was bipartisan support for this provision which was included in the HEROES Act and was separately introduced in the House, the FEED the Children Act (H.R. 6801).
3)	Extend the Pandemic-Electronic Benefits Transfer through the summer and next school year. This was included in the HEROES Act.
4)	Provide personal protective equipment (PPE) for food service workers and other staff. While the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act provided funds to schools that could be used to purchase PPE, hardly any school meal programs have benefited because there is currently no dedicated funding for PPE for these frontline workers and the funds have been spent elsewhere.
5)	Reject any attempt to link school meal reimbursements with school reopening. Whether or not schools are doing remote or in-person learning, school meal programs must continue to operate so that kids don’t fall through the cracks. We shouldn’t play politics with our kids.

These actions will support our economic recovery and ensure that no kid goes hungry. Thank you for considering my position.
