Tell the Bureau of Land Management to keep Big Oil away from public lands!

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to offer thousands of acres of land in Colorado for oil and gas drilling. This could pollute our rivers, contribute to air pollution, and harm wildlife.

We only have a few weeks to stop it -- will you take action to protect our public lands?

To whom it may concern:

I strongly oppose the March 2021 lease sale of 100,000 acres in Colorado. If these areas are leased for oil and gas development, it could destroy important habitat for threatened wildlife like elk, mule deer, and the Greater Sage Grouse.

In light of the decision in Montana Wildlife Federation v. Bernhardt, BLM must halt future leasing until it has developed a legally compliant, enforceable approach to prioritizing leasing and development outside sage-grouse habitat as directed by the 2015 Sage-grouse Plans.

Additionally, this lease sale threatens to increase fracking in this sensitive region. Fracking could contaminate groundwater -- a critical resource that supplies many communities, especially rural ones, with drinking water. Because rural communities are less likely to have access to broadband Internet in Colorado, the current process for collecting public input during the COVID-19 pandemic means those most impacted by this lease sale are less able to weigh in.

I demand you cancel the lease sale and halt all leasing on public lands throughout the course of the pandemic.
