Tell your Representative: Protect the Grand Canyon from polluters!

Congress is considering a permanent ban on uranium mining near Grand Canyon National Park -- protecting rivers and public health. We need your help to push our Representatives to pass this bill and protect our public lands.

Dear Representative:

I am alarmed that uranium mining near the Grand Canyon has not been banned and that our wildplaces are at risk. Representative Raúl Grijalva recently introduced H.R.803 -- Protecting America’s Wilderness and Public Lands Act -- and I ask that you support this critical legislation.

Despite a twenty-year ban enacted in 2012 to protect the Grand Canyon from future mining projects, this iconic landscape and local Indigenous communities continue to feel the devastating impacts of previous mining projects. Grand Canyon springs are already polluted by contaminated water from at least one abandoned mine and another mine that was reopened in 2009.

The future of 1.49 million acres of wildplaces hangs in the balance. If these lands are opened for oil and gas development or mining projects, it will destroy important habitats for endangered and threatened creatures. It will also impact people who enjoy our public lands for recreation like hiking, kayaking, and mountain climbing.

For the sake of our environment and the health of frontline communities, I implore you to support Representative Raúl Grijalva’s H.R.803-- Protecting America’s Wilderness and Public Lands Act.
