Tell the Fish & Wildlife Service: Protect migratory birds!

In December, the Trump Administration took steps to eliminate penalties when polluters injure or kill migratory birds like the bald eagle in the course of their operations.

There are less than two weeks left to stop Trump's last attacks. Will you send a message to the Fish and Wildlife service and demand it save birds?

To the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service:

At this time of crisis when so many of us are discovering and enjoying the birds in our communities and looking to birds as symbols of hope, I am deeply concerned that the Trump Administration moved forward with a rulemaking to remove longstanding bird protections under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. I strongly urge you to uphold the Migratory Bird Protection Act.

Despite recent reports finding that North America has lost nearly 3 billion birds since 1970 and that two-thirds of our birds are threatened by climate change, bird protections are facing an unprecedented attack. A 2017 Department of the Interior legal opinion on the MBTA ended the enforcement of bird deaths from avoidable industrial hazards, overturning decades of bipartisan precedent. Recently, a federal court ruled that this policy was unlawful and vacated the legal opinion. Yet, the Interior Department has indicated it plans to finalize a rulemaking that would reinstate this unlawful and devastating policy despite widespread objections, including  by more than 25 states, numerous tribes, the Government of Canada, scientists, sportsmen, conservationists, and more than 250,000 people.

The Migratory Bird Protection Act would reaffirm longstanding bird protections, and at the same time, provide greater certainty for industry by directing the creation of an incidental take permit. Please stand up for the significant value that birds bring to our communities.
