Tell Congress: Stop the spread of climate disinformation!

Climate denial posts on Facebook have been viewed millions of times in the U.S. The site has not done enough to stop the spread of these dangerous lies.

We need your help to stop climate misinformation from running amok on Facebook.

Dear legislator,

Facebook is flooded with fake and intentionally misleading content. Climate denial is a problem that is running amok across social media platforms. The trend of disinformation campaigns being spread on social media continues to sweep the country, while Big Tech is doing little to combat it.

In 2020, ads spreading climate denial were viewed at least 8 million times. These ads claimed fossil fuels are not a threat and climate change is a hoax. Facebook allowed these climate deniers to spread dangerous propaganda, mostly targeting men over the age of 55 in rural areas.

Facebook not only did little to stop these egregious posts, but took it one step further by allowing these deniers to micro-target ads.

But the problem goes deeper than advertisers. After the Texas winter storm, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee posted propaganda blaming wind turbine failures that received more than 15.8 million views.

I implore you to pressure these platforms to stop the spread of climate disinformation.
