Whole Foods markets itself as the healthiest grocery chain in the United States. But it sells juice, water, fruit, and more in single-use plastics. The plastic ends up in our waterways, causing millions of animals to harmed or killed annually.

Dear Whole Foods CEO John Mackey,

I am writing to urge you to help the U.S. achieve a future free of plastic pollution. Single-use plastics, like those used in your stores, are contributing to extreme ecological danger by prioritizing profits over the planet. And the impact is enormous: The equivalent of an entire garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our oceans every minute, and scientists warn that by 2050 there could be more plastic in our oceans than fish.

The threat of all this plastic pollution affects everything from our water supply to animal habitats to human life itself. But companies like yours have not slowed their use of these dangerous plastics. The United States is expected to triple plastic exports from 2014 to 2030 - even though a recent report says we have less than 10 years to revamp our economy and prevent a full-on climate catastrophe. I am calling on you to take the necessary steps to rein in this pollution, end the use of single-use plastics at Whole Foods and help set the country on a path toward a plastic-pollution-free future as soon as possible.
