Protect our communities from toxic air pollution!

Right now, the Bay Area’s Air Quality Management District is considering adopting the strongest rule to limit particulate matter pollution. But Big Oil companies like Chevron are lobbying hard to oppose this rule so they can continue flooding our communities with toxic air pollution.

This injustice cannot continue. It’s up to all of us to use our voices to stand up for the communities most effected by climate change. And we need to act now. Will you send a message to the Air Quality Management District and demand it adopt strict pollution control rules?

To: Bay Area Air Quality Management Board of Directors

Dear Air District Directors,

Over a million Bay Area residents are impacted by health-harming particulate matter pollution from East Bay refinery “Cat Crackers.” The Air District's own modeling shows that this pollution hits Black and Brown communities like Richmond the worst and has put off taking corrective action for far too long.

It’s time to address this environmental injustice.

According to the experts on your Advisory Council, particulate matter is the most dangerous pollutant afflicting our community and there is no safe level. Their recommendation: the District should move as quickly as possible, to take maximum action within its authority, to protect health by reducing PM, especially in areas with elevated exposures.

At your June 2nd meeting, I’m counting on your vote to save lives, by passing the most health-protective standard for Rule 6-5 and requiring the fastest possible installation of wet gas scrubbing technology that is already in use at most refineries in the US.
