Oil and gas drilling releases methane – a greenhouse gas 86 times more potent than carbon dioxide – into our atmosphere. This contributes to rising global temperatures, which leads to droughts and uncontrollable wildfires like we witnessed just last summer.
In April, Governor Gavin Newsom announced the state would ban new fracking starting in 2021 -- but the draft ban isn’t nearly strong enough. Fracking only accounts for a small amount of oil and gas extraction in our state, including drilling near schools that pollutes the air our children breathe. I need your help to tell the state to ban all dangerous drilling, including all wells within 2,500 feet of the places we live, work, and play.
