Demand Congress stand up to Big Oil!

Currently 1 million species face extinction because of Big Oil. And with less than 10 years to avert the worst effects of climate change, we cannot wait to phase out fossil fuels.

But Congress is still using our tax dollars to prop up these dirty industries. Will you send a message to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and demand he end fossil fuel subsidies?

Dear Senator Schumer,

I am writing to urge you to support the elimination of fossil fuel subsidies in the coming reconciliation legislation. Currently, $121 billion in special interest tax giveaways are expected to pass to the fossil fuel industry over the next decade. These subsidies have persisted despite numerous calls for their elimination, including the international commitments of our government and strong recent calls from President Joe Biden.

It is past time to stop subsidizing dirty energy. Instead of supporting the industries responsible for deadly pollution and climate chaos, we should support a just transition to clean energy jobs and the sustainable infrastructure we need. Action taken now will help us protect our climate, promote a more equitable, clean energy economy for America, and strengthen our international leadership.

Please stop the flow of public dollars to fossil fuel companies, which occurs in many ways including but not limited to:

- Special giveaways that exempt oil and gas companies from paying taxes on much of their foreign income and allow inappropriate deductions for fossil fuel development, exploration, and production costs.

- Research and development tax credits that encourage expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure.

- Lax financial requirements for cleanup of oil and gas wells that leave the public with the bill (if the wells get cleaned up at all).

- Below-market leasing rates, royalties, and fees that encourage further oil and gas development and exploit our public lands.
