Tell your Senators: Stop sacrificing the planet to Big Oil's greed!

Congress has allowed your tax dollars to prop up the fossil fuel industry for over a century. With our elected officials’ help, global carbon emissions from fossil fuels have increased by 90% since the 1970s.

Enough is enough. Our leaders have sided with Big Oil too many times. It’s time to hold Congress accountable to people, wildlife, and the planet, not polluters. But your legislators will only listen if you keep up the pressure on them and demand they stop throwing money at Big Oil.

Dear Senator,

The reconciliation package must cover a variety of important priorities, including critical climate policy. The IPCC has declared the climate crisis a code red for humanity, and the actions our nation takes now will directly affect our ability to avert the worst effects of the climate crisis. Americans are already suffering from fossil-fuel pollution and the increased severity and frequency of destructive weather, like Hurricane Ida and the wildfires that ripped across Western states.

When addressing the climate crisis, the clearest place to start is ending taxpayer subsidies to Big Oil. It is unconscionable that the package could allow the oil industry to continue to receive billions in handouts at the taxpayer’s expense. A just transition away from our addiction to fossil fuels must include repealing the $121 billion of preferential tax treatment and loopholes given to fossil fuels. The reconciliation process presents the opportunity to do just that -- to repeal fossil fuel subsidies to help pay for this historic investment in our future.

As your constituent, I urge you to ensure that repealing fossil fuel subsidies is included as a source of revenue for the infrastructure package.
