Tell USDA to stop supporting factory farming and protect farmed animals

From birth to slaughter, animals on factory farms are forced to endure horrendous cruelty and abuse. When they are only HOURS old, newborn chicks are sent to the debeaking machine to have parts of their breaks seared off. Then, they are forced to live the rest of their lives crammed into tiny wire cages, denied sunshine or fresh air before being brutally slaughtered.

We can help stop factory farming corporations from causing chickens and other farm animals so much suffering and pain if we take collective action now. We’ve only got until MIDNIGHT to get another 402 signatures on our petition to the USDA demanding that it STOP supporting factory farming. Dear Secretary Vilsack,

I am writing to urge you to do all within your power to end USDA’s support for climate-harming factory farms that engage in unsafe, abusive and environmentally destructive practices. Factory farming is a driving cause of the climate crisis, harms local communities, creates breeding grounds for the next pandemic, and perpetuates intolerable animal suffering.

Producing animals at such a massive scale threatens our only Earth and endangers the health and livelihoods of the people who live near factory farms. Communities living near factory farms are often low-income communities and communities of color, making this a crucial environmental justice issue. Our planet is in crisis, and that calls for transformative solutions that end federal support for factory farming. That means slashing subsidies for factory farm gas, ending the support of USDA’s conservation programs for factory farms, and helping farmers transition to sustainable and humane forms of agriculture as quickly as possible.

Again, I respectfully urge you to do all you can to end federal support for climate-harming factory farms that engage in unsafe, abusive and environmentally destructive practices.
