Tell Congress to stop hunters from killing gray wolves!

Wolf pups come into this world deaf and blind and extremely vulnerable before they even have a chance to fend for themselves. Litters of wolf pups are born in dens built by the entire pack so that the adults can keep them safe and their mothers can nurse them.

Not only is it LEGAL for wolf pups and their families to be TARGETED directly and MURDERED while sleeping peacefully in their dens, but when INHUMANE overhunting kills adult wolves, these orphaned pups will die of STARVATION or HYPERTHERMIA on their own.

We must ACT NOW to protect wolf pups from BARBARIC hunting practices before trophy hunters SAVAGELY murder them or their wolf packs and mercilessly rob them of their only chance at survival.

Dear Member of Congress,
 
I’m writing to ask you to urge Sec. Haaland to issue an emergency listing to restore federal protections through the Endangered Species Act to the gray wolf. 
 
In October 2020, the Trump Administration announced that it would be removing endangered species protections from the gray wolf. After being on the brink of extinction in the 1970s, decades of recovery efforts along with strong federal protections have bolstered the population, even though they only occupy a fraction of their former range.
 
Several states have already taken advantage of the removal of federal protections. In February, only a month after protections were lifted, the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board authorized a hunt with a quota of 119 wolves. In less than 3 days, hunters blew through that quota, killing 218 wolves. Further evidence suggests another 100 wolves were killed, bringing the total population loss in the state to more than 33%. Other states have proposed inhumane laws which would allow the slaughtering of wolf pups and the use of snares. 
 
As apex predators, wolves play a critical role in the ecosystems of these areas, and their presence has a positive effect on other plant and animal species. Studies have also shown that wolves can decrease deer-vehicle collisions by 25% in areas where they are present.
  
An emergency listing is an appropriate, temporary tool available to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, allowing it to immediately reinstate protections for 240 days. During this time, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service can complete the status review of gray wolves while ensuring that the species is not at risk.
