Tell Procter & Gamble to stop flushing forests down the toilet!

Procter & Gamble is destroying Canada's boreal forest to make Charmin toilet paper.

The boreal forests are not just essential to wildlife and the Indigenous peoples who call these forests home, but it also stores millions of tons of carbon — an essential defense against the climate crisis that impacts our entire planet and every one of us.

Other companies have already moved to planet-safe alternatives, and it’s time that P&G follow suit and increase its use of recycled materials and sustainable fibers to protect the environment and our ecosystem.

To Procter & Gamble:

As a consumer concerned about our environment, I was upset to learn that Charmin toilet paper is still being sourced from 100 percent virgin trees, many of them from Canada's boreal forest. It's appalling that no recycled material is used to make Charmin.

Not only does the Canadian boreal forest store vast amounts of carbon, but it's also home to hundreds of Indigenous communities and to the iconic boreal caribou. The forest known as “the Amazon of the North” stores millions of tons of carbon — an essential defense against the climate crisis that impacts our entire planet and every one of us.

It's unconscionable that majestic, old-growth trees are being cut down to make a product that's used once, then flushed down the toilet — all for the sake of profit.

Your competitors like Trader Joe’s and 365 Bath Tissue have already made the move to planet-safe materials, and I’m calling on you today to take responsibility for P&G’s environmental destruction and find sustainable alternatives.

Procter & Gamble has the power to change this destructive paradigm on a massive scale by reducing the virgin pulp content in its products and increasing the use of recycled materials and sustainable alternative fibers. P&G should also ensure real respect for Indigenous peoples’ rights by putting Indigenous communities at the center of sourcing decisions; acting to protect caribou habitats; and taking other important steps toward sustainability.

Please move quickly to ensure that your products don't come at the cost of this globally important ecosystem.
