Tell the BLM to save the polar bears in the Arctic!

The Trump administration approved a huge new oil project on Alaska’s North Slope, called the Peregrine exploration project. The BLM is poised to give it another green light even though numerous environmental groups have warned that the massive construction effort will devastate polar bears.

But it’s not too late. This project hasn’t started yet, and because of environmentalists like you, the Bureau of Land Management has created an opportunity for public input that could stop devasting drilling in the Arctic. Now, I’m counting on you to send a message to the BLM and save polar bears.

Thank you for opening this comment period on 88 Energy’s revised Peregrine exploration program in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska.

I am writing to ask you to please do everything you can to carefully review this dangerous development, starting with a thorough Environmental Impact Statement that closely analyzes and discloses the full extent of harms that could result from this program and fully consider a reasonable range of alternatives to approving and issuing permits as proposed.

It is clear that an EIS is required here because the revised Peregrine exploration program could have significant impacts on the resources of the Reserve and on the people who depend on those resources for subsistence, cultural, traditional, aesthetic, ecological, and other purposes. The Peregrine exploration program could also have significant climate change impacts, resulting in potential effects of local, national, and global concerns.

Furthermore, approving new drilling projects is inconsistent with the current administration’s climate goals and promises. It is of paramount importance to the Arctic and our warming planet to stop the Peregrine exploration program and any new drilling projects in the Arctic. Given the above reasons, I urge you to fulfill all mandates under NEPA by completing a thorough and detailed EIS on the risks of harm imposed by the revised Peregrine project.
