Demand Procter & Gamble to stop fueling deforestation through palm oil products!

Endangered species like the Sumatran tiger and orangutans are being driven to extinction because of deforestation. Procter & Gamble markets Head & Shoulders shampoo as clean and environmentally safe, but the reality is its suppliers use dirty practices to manufacture the palm oil in this shampoo. Rainforests are slashed and burned, clearing room to grow this ingredient.

Deforestation is destroying our planet and killing precious animals. Other companies have made significant steps to protect the Earth’s most fragile ecosystems, but P&G is dragging its feet. Will you demand the company stop putting profits before the health of people and our planet?

As a consumer concerned about the future of the planet, I was upset to learn that many of your household products contain palm oil produced by tearing down tropical rainforests in Indonesia and Malaysia.

These lands are sacred to many of the Indigenous and local communities in the area that call them home. They play a critical role in mitigating climate change by serving as invaluable carbon sinks. They also are critical wildlife habitats for several endangered species.

Tropical deforestation is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions and is a major contributor to the devastating climate crisis. When P&G’s value chains destroy these rainforests, massive amounts of carbon are released into the atmosphere, compounding the climate crisis.

It's unconscionable that majestic, old-growth trees are being cut down to make products that are often marketed as beauty and cleaning products — when the ugly truth and dirty practices behind the manufacturing of these goods is so damaging to our environment.

It is possible to create cleaning and hygiene products without the use of conflict palm oil and make supply chains deforestation and conflict-free. Procter & Gamble has the power to change this destructive paradigm on a massive scale by ending its business relationships with destructive palm oil companies and ensuring respect for the land rights of Indigenous and local communities by requiring evidence of Free, Prior, Informed Consent from suppliers.
