Demand the USDA to stop its support for factory farms!

Mega meat corporations pollute our air and water and subject farm animals to intolerably cruel conditions. Cramming these helpless animals into crowded spaces creates a dangerous breeding zone for bacteria and disease.

Not only does the waste from factory farms contaminate our food, water, and air supply, but the greenhouse gas emissions released by factory farms put our public health at risk by exacerbating the climate crisis and harming nearby residents of factory farms — disproportionately located in low-income communities and communities of color. These toxic pollutants have been linked to respiratory ailments, decreased quality of life, mental stress, and elevated blood pressure.

If we are going to protect the health and well-being of our communities and animals, the USDA must STOP its support of this greed-fueled industry right away!

Dear USDA,

Factory farming is devastating to local communities, public health, and our environment, and it perpetuates intolerable cruelty to animals.

Industrial-scale farms produce as much as 1 billion tons of manure waste — three times as much as humans. That waste ends up contaminating our water, food, and air supply.

Nearby residents are also at risk from factory farms. Research has linked the toxic air and water pollutants to respiratory ailments, decreased quality of life, mental stress, and elevated blood pressure. This harms low-income communities and communities of color the most, where these facilities are disproportionately located.

To make matters worse, factory farming releases large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions, fueling the climate crisis.

I am dismayed that despite documented public health, environmental justice, and animal welfare harms of factory farming, USDA continues to fund and support factory farming corporations. I am writing to you today to respectfully urge USDA to prioritize people by ending USDA’s support of the factory farming industry.
