Tell Kellogg’s to STOP prioritizing profit over our precious rainforests!

Indonesia’s rainforests are an ecological wonder, providing shelter for endangered species like the orangutan and the Sumatran tiger. They are home to Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities These forests also store more carbon than the world releases in 9 years, making them a crucial line of defense against the climate crisis — which impacts ALL of us.

But when greedy corporations like Kellogg’s continue to supply palm oil from this treasured region, Indigenous communities are forced from their homes, natural resources are depleted, and environmentally-beneficial trees are demolished.

The ecological and cultural significance of Indonesia’s rainforests are being threatened, and we must save these beloved lands before they are completely destroyed by corporate greed.

As a consumer concerned about our environment, I was upset to learn that your company still sources conflict palm oil from companies like Astra Agro Lestari, that are wiping out ancient trees, destroying precious community lands, and threatening environmental human rights defenders.

The rainforests in Indonesia are an ecological treasure. Home to endangered species like the orangutan and the Sumatran tiger, as well as to Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities, these forests also store more carbon than the world releases in 9 years, making them a crucial line of defense against the climate crisis — which impacts ALL of us.

But when your company supplies palm oil from this treasured region, it threatens the ecological and cultural significance of the forests while enabling human rights abuses in the process.

In addition to the environmental harms, there are devastating impacts for local communities as well. Conflict palm oil companies like AAL force families off their lands, criminalizing them in the process, and destroying their livelihoods.

Your company has developed policies to ensure that suppliers respect communities’ land rights, including the right to Free Prior Informed Consent, However, Astra Agro Lestari’s operations are responsible for numerous environmental and human rights violations in Central and West Sulawesi, Indonesia. Sustainability commitments require actions to ensure accountability.

Your company has the power to change this destructive paradigm by holding destructive suppliers accountable and ensuring remedy for violations committed. The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises require companies to address violations throughout the value chain. This means suspending AAL from your supply chain while investigations into violations are ongoing.

Your company is recognizable all over the world. Let it stand for something more than the blind pursuit of profit. Please move quickly to suspend AAL from your supply chain and take meaningful steps toward sustainability.
