FOE: Take Action

For years, greedy corporations like Bayer have been a key factor pushing wild bees, butterflies and other precious insect pollinators toward the brink of EXTINCTION by selling toxic pesticides like neonics and glyphosate. Massive amounts of these harmful chemicals are being used in agriculture every year. Plus, glyphosate is the key ingredient in toxic weed killer Roundup, sold to consumers in stores across the U.S.!

Even worse, many of these bee-toxic pesticides do not dissipate easily – they build up in our environment. U.S. agriculture is 48 times more toxic to bees and other insect life than it was 20 years ago, and neonics account for 92 percent of the increase.

The future of our food system is in serious jeopardy, and it’s past time to stop the problem at the source. Roundup is so widely used that now, a new study shows 4 out of 5 adults have glyphosate in their bodies. That’s 80% of our entire population!

To Bayer:

I am writing to urge Bayer to protect bees and other pollinators that are critical to our food system. 40% of insect pollinators are on the brink of extinction, and the bee-toxic pesticides produced by companies like Bayer are key drivers of this crisis. Our wild pollinators are precious and irreplaceable, and we need immediate action to ensure their survival.

Scientists across the world are warning that we are in the midst of an “insect apocalypse.” But despite massive declines in wild bee populations and those of other crucial pollinators, Bayer continues producing pesticides that are harmful to them, such as neonicotinoids and  glyphosate. We can no longer tolerate this reckless disregard of pollinator health that threatens our food system and ecosystems.

What’s more, researchers found glyphosate, the key ingredient in Roundup, in 80% of children and adults who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey – a program of the CDC. That means 4 out of 5 people in our general population have been exposed to this cancer-linked chemical.

Today, I urge you to listen to science and put an end to this dangerous state of affairs. Take immediate action to end the production of neonicotinoids and glyphosate. We need quick and decisive action to save precious pollinators and protect the health of people and the planet.
