Demand your Representative stand up to Big Oil and kill this dangerous, dirty deal!

Senator Manchin’s new plan would gut bedrock environmental laws that protect communities and the planet from polluting projects like the Mountain Valley Pipeline. We must not let Congress pass this disastrous proposal. Opposition from your Congressmember can help sink Senator Manchin’s plan, and YOUR action could convince them.

Big Oil has forced polluting projects onto communities, especially BIPOC and low-wealth neighborhoods, without proper consent for decades. If Senator Manchin passes his plan, Big Oil will be able to bypass the protections that exist now and greenlight new projects with ease. Poisoned air and water for people living nearby will be the result.

This is a deal by and for the fossil fuel millionaires and billionaires and no one else.

Dear Representative,

I am writing to urge you to immediately sign Representative Raul Grijalva’s letter to House leadership opposing the inclusion of Senator Manchin’s dirty deal for Big Oil -- a so-called “permitting reform package” -- in must-pass legislation.

According to widespread media reporting, this legislation would cut down and hollow out the environmental review process, weaken Tribal consultations, and make it far harder for frontline communities to have their voices heard by gutting bedrock protections in the National Environmental Policy Act and Clean Water Act.  Further, it would promote and prioritize dozens of fossil fuel projects, including the incomplete fracked-gas Mountain Valley Pipeline, and dictate where future court cases to protect communities and the environment can be filed.

It is no surprise that the leaked draft bears the watermark of the American Petroleum Institute. It is Big Oil’s wish list.

Please act to stem the climate crisis and stand with communities who continue to bear the brunt of harm from fossil fuels. I urge you to contact Representative Grijalva’s office before the deadline of COB this Friday, September 2, and add your signature to this critical letter opposing the inclusion of dirty permitting provisions on a Continuing Resolution or other must-pass legislation.
