Tell the USDA to approve the organic animal welfare rule immediately!

In 2017, the Trump Administration sided with Big Ag in abolishing The Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices Rule that would increase federal regulation of organic livestock.

This animal welfare would enforce high standards for organic farms like providing animals with real outdoor access, ample space to move around, and even protection from unnecessary physical alterations.

Organic consumers demand a healthy, safe, and transparent food system from animals that are treated with dignity and respect — and they deserve to trust that farms using the organic label have truly met the highest standards of humane requirements.

Dear USDA,

I am writing to urge you to reinstate the Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices (OLPP) rule immediately.

The rule is the result of 14 years of public and transparent deliberation to advance animal care standards in organic farming. It is supported by organic consumers, farmers, and businesses, as well as animal advocates.

You have the opportunity to undo the damage that the Trump Administration caused when they abolished this rule in 2017.

Organic agriculture was born out of a public outcry for a healthier, safer, and more transparent food system. The OLPP will ensure that all organic farms meet consumers’ expectations and that animals on organic farms are treated with dignity and respect. 
 
The organic sector depends on the USDA to set organic standards fairly and according to the law. We are counting on you to protect organic agriculture, farmers, and animals by approving this important rule.
