Still reeling from the deaths of family members, only 73 Southern Resident orcas remain in the wild -- and they’re struggling to survive. Orcas function in close-knit, sensitive communities. When they lose a family member, their chances of survival plummet as their grief can push them into STARVATION.
If Big Oil and shipping companies proceed with projects like the expanded Trans Mountain Pipeline and the Roberts Bank T2 terminal, it could spell disaster for orcas. The increased oil tanker and shipping traffic caused by these megaprojects will result in extreme noise, air, and water pollution and increase the oil spill threat -- which would not only destroy sensitive orca habitat but would also drive away Chinook salmon, a vital food source for these innocent creatures. We need to ACT NOW and STOP the devastating deaths.
