Beavers are ecosystem engineers! These furry creatures create rich, healthy wetlands, offering us important nature-based remedies that are crucial to fighting the human-driven climate crisis. Wetlands, ponds, and dams maintained by beavers provide essential services like carbon drawdown, water storage and filtration, natural firebreaks, and fish and wildlife habitat.

Scientists have been saying for years how important these climate-solving superheroes are to our planet – but state fish and game agencies have FAILED to sufficiently protect beavers. Ever year, TENS OF THOUSANDS of beavers are viciously killed -- trapped, snared, and shot all so that cruel hunters can make a few dollars off their fur and meat!

Banning beaver hunting and trapping is the one single factor that we can control to help their populations grow and recover so that these helpful animals can continue defending the planet.

The urgency of the climate and biodiversity crises call for BOLD ACTION at the executive level of government, so we’re calling on President Biden to issue an executive order to protect beavers as an emergency climate response.

Dear President Biden,

I am writing to you today to urge your administration to issue an executive order banning hunting and trapping of beaver on federally-managed public lands as an emergency climate change response.

Beavers are ecosystem engineers that create rich wetlands offering us an important nature-based remedy for carbon drawdown. In addition to climate benefits, beaver dams and meadows provide vital ecosystem services such as water storage and filtration, natural firebreaks, and fish and wildlife habitat.

Beaver dams slow down the flow of water, so the water stays on land for longer — making it available to both animals and people. Wetlands and ponds maintained by beavers even improve water quality itself.

But state fish and game agencies have failed to sufficiently protect beaver across the country. Banning beaver hunting and trapping is the one single factor that we can control to help their populations grow and recover. The urgency of the climate and biodiversity crises now calls for bold action at the executive level of government.

Please act immediately to protect our beavers so that this keystone species can continue maintaining healthy wetland ecosystems and fighting climate change.
