Tell the EPA to rein in corporate cruise companies!

The Arctic is warming TWICE as fast as the rest of the world. Animals are already enduring some of the worst impacts of the climate crisis: malnutrition, starvation, and habitat loss! Southern Beaufort Sea polar bears are the most imperiled polar bear population in the entire world, with only 900 remaining!

Meanwhile, corporate cruise companies charge TITANIC vessels into the Arctic, spewing TOXIC POLLUTION, dumping WASTEWATER, and sending ARCTIC-MELTING EMISSIONS into the atmosphere. The air, water, and noise pollution harms local people and drives away fish that both polar bears and Indigenous communities rely on for food.

Dear EPA,

The Arctic is one of the most fragile places on earth, suffering astronomically from the results of the human-driven climate crisis. As the earth is warming and temperatures rise, sensitive arctic habitats are melting and shrinking, leaving vulnerable species like polar bears struggling to survive.

The cruise industry is making things worse for this ecological disaster in the Arctic by increasing cruise ship traffic with massive vessels that release massive amounts of climate-warming emissions, emit disruptive noise pollution that drives fish and critical food sources away, AND dump toxic chemicals that are seeping into the food chain itself.

Carnival Corporation is one of the worst offenders — carrying 11,000 tons of hazardous heavy fuel oil in a single year through Artic waters — nearly three times as much as its largest competitor.

I am calling on your agency to take immediate steps to enact stricter regulations and policies to rein in cruise ship pollution in the Artic in order to protect this region and its wildlife before it's too late.
