Help push AIG Insurance to OPPOSE oil and gas in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge!

The Arctic is melting TWICE as fast as anywhere else in the world.

In his final days, Trump opened the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling -- tanker trucks, compressors, and drilling rigs that could DESTROY the refuge and bring TOXIC POLLUTION.

Oil and gas projects require insurance to get off the ground, and insurance giant Chubb just committed to not support oil and gas projects that threaten the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Now, the Gwich’in Steering Committee is asking other insurance companies to follow suit.

This is a critical moment to pressure other insurance companies to follow suit and effectively NULL new oil projects and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge!

Dear American International Group Insurance,

I am writing to urge your company to publicly adopt a policy against underwriting new oil and gas development in the Arctic Refuge.

Last year your company announced a policy not to underwrite new oil and gas development in the Arctic; it was unclear whether this policy would encompass the Arctic Refuge. I ask you today to make the commitment and include the Arctic Refuge within your Arctic drilling policy.

The Gwich’in people call the coastal plain “The Sacred Place Where Life Begins” and have relied for thousands of years on the Porcupine caribou that use it as their calving and nursery grounds. Oil and gas development threatens to alter caribou migration and destroy the coastal plain’s natural values, risking the way of life of the Gwich’in and other Indigenous peoples who rely on those values.

Considered the biological heart of the Arctic Refuge, the coastal plain also provides critical denning habitat for the threatened Southern Beaufort Sea population of polar bears and nesting grounds for millions of migratory birds. As the most critical part of the Arctic Refuge’s delicate ecosystem, the coastal plain is a perfect example of a place that should be off-limits to oil drilling and industrial development.

Once again, I urge you to protect the Arctic Refuge and update your policy against new oil and gas development in this critical region.
