Demand your representatives PROTECT innocent animals from Big Ag abuses!

The Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act would create much needed protections for animals during transportation and slaughter.

The bill would also offer protections for factory farm and slaughterhouse workers who regularly deal with the unsanitary conditions in which animals are kept and slaughtered. This includes health care benefits and severance pay if they’re let go due to natural disasters. For example, during the early COVID-19 pandemic, many slaughterhouses shut down and laid off workers without pay.

During these shutdowns, slaughterhouses used taxpayer dollars to “depopulate” -- aka killing millions of animals under cruel conditions, including GASSING and SHOOTING them. But the Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act would PREVENT these inhumane methods of slaughter in disaster situations.

Dear Representative,

I am writing to respectfully urge you to cosponsor the Industrial Animal Agriculture Accountability Act (S.272/H.R.805). I was shocked and saddened to learn that my taxpayer dollars have subsidized industrial livestock corporations to slaughter animals using intolerably cruel methods during the COVID-19 pandemic and other disasters, such as avian flu outbreaks. Farm animals were killed by suffocation, heating them to death, and even blunt force trauma.

Despite this crisis, livestock corporations are not required to create disaster preparedness plans, and there are no requirements for companies to euthanize animals humanely in the case of disasters – or to have to pay for it. This needs to change.

Furthermore, it is unacceptable that workers on farms and in slaughterhouses are denied health coverage or laid off without severance pay during disasters, and this bill would help change that, too.

Please do all within your power to pass the Industrial Animal Agriculture Accountability Act.
