Demand stronger Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves and grizzly bears!

Innocent grizzly bears and gray wolves are being viciously slaughtered by cruel trophy hunters using some of the most inhumane and horrific killing methods imaginable — from rapid fire bullets to dynamiting sleeping pups and cubs in their dens, to steel leg traps and choking snares, and even running these helpless animals over with snowmobiles.

And in several states, these barbaric murders are completely LEGAL.

Meanwhile, extremist lawmakers are working with the hunting lobby and other Big Polluters to scale back life-saving Endangered Species Act (ESA) protections even further for these beloved animals.

If that happens, helpless bear cubs and wolf pups will continue to be violently slaughtered by merciless trophy hunters — and these two iconic keystone species could go completely EXTINCT.

The situation is dire and urgent, and time is running out. Defenseless gray wolves and grizzlies are counting on us to be their voice. Dear US Fish and Wildlife Service, 
 
Thank you for your efforts to restore Endangered Species Act (ESA) rules that have been historically rolled back. The ESA is bedrock environmental law that can and should remain as strong as possible. 
 
I am writing to urge you to go even further. We need all of the protections undermined for gray wolves and grizzly bears to be restored – and then we need even more protections.  
 
It was announced that gray wolves would once again be protected as endangered species in most of the country. However, these safeguards do not apply to gray wolves’ critical native range in the Northern Rocky States of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

These states permit some of the most barbaric trophy hunting practices. Idaho has removed the limit to the number of wolves that can be murdered by a single person and allows private contractors to financially sponsor mass wolf killings. Montana has recently authorized wolf snaring — an inhumane method of torture that traps and chokes innocent wolves, making them suffer before their deaths — and the state just lengthened its trapping and snaring season.

And for grizzlies, there are less than 2,000 of native North American grizzly bears remaining and removing ESA protections would be detrimental to ensuring their recovery. Grizzlies are already targeted by trophy hunters who savagely bait, trap, and shoot these innocent animals in cold blood. If federal protections are removed, it is likely that these brutal trophy hunting tactics will become even more rampant, and will result in excessive, unregulated killing of grizzly bears.

Gray wolves and grizzly bears are an iconic symbol of American wilderness, and they are culturally significant to the local tribal communities of the Northern Rockies. Not only that, but they also serve a critical role in our entire ecosystem. Please, protect these beloved species in all states before it’s too late.
