Tell Congress to update our outdated hardrock mining laws to support clean energy and communities, not the mining industry!

Do you want to give anyone the ability to pay a small fee to gain the absolute rights to pollute and destroy public lands?

I didn’t think so. That’s exactly what the Mining Regulatory and Clarity Act would do should it pass.

Our outdated mining laws haven’t been updated since 1872. We need reforms to ensure community and environmental protections. The way to do that is to pass a better bill -- the Clean Energy Reforms Act of 2023, not give a handout to the mining industry.

We need your help to make your members in Congress understand what’s at stake. As their constituent, your voice has real meaning. Please help us STOP this devastating mining bill and instead pass one that will protect communities and our public lands!

Dear Representative,

I am writing to urge you to update our outdated mining laws, and to do so in a community oriented and environmentally conscious manner. The Clean Energy Minerals Reform Act of 2023 is an excellent example of such reforms.  Our hardrock mining laws have not been updated since 1872 and contain no environmental or community protections. They are in need of a serious overhaul.

The Clean Energy Minerals Reform Act of 2023, among other things, would:

-	Protect water resources and habitats by establishing strong environmental and cleanup standards specific to mining
-	Provide a fair return to taxpayers by ensuring a reasonable royalty on minerals to fund the Infrastructure law’s hardrock abandoned mine lands program
-	Defend Indigenous and other mining-affected communities and special places from irresponsible mining by giving land managers the ability to balance mining with other uses of the public’s lands.

Conversely, I have serious concerns about the Mining Regulatory and Clarity Act , which is nothing more than  a handout to the mining industry masquerading as reform. Among other things, it would:

-	Give anyone the ability to gain absolute rights to occupy land in perpetuity, building waste dumps, roads, and pipelines over our public lands. 
-	Enable anyone to block other developments by purchasing rights to the land in its path
-	Give the mining industry power to dictate how we use our public lands

Our mining laws are in dire need of reforms, and the path forward is clear. Please support the Clean Energy Minerals Act of 2023 and oppose the Minng Regulatory and Clarity Act.
