Stop ConocoPhillips from seismic testing in fragile Arctic habitats!

The Arctic is melting at an astonishing pace – the Willow Project will only speed up warming.

The way of life for the Indigenous Iñupiaq Peoples who reside there is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. The habitats of the wildlife they rely on are melting. Resources grow scarcer.

The solution is not a money-hungry company that will pave over the snowy habitat, bring emissions-spewing trucks, and pump water out of the natural lakes. That will only make things worse – and that’s why we need your help to stop it.

To Secretary Deb Haaland,

I’m writing to urge you to reject proposed seismic testing by ConocoPhillips in support of the Willow Project in Alaska’s Arctic before it causes irreparable damage.

The region provides critical habitats for species like polar bears and nesting grounds for millions of migratory birds. The delicate ecosystem is a perfect example of a place that should be off-limits to oil drilling and industrial development. This development and the climate impacts it causes can even threaten the local caribou population, risking a vital resource that many Indigenous peoples rely on.

The Willow Project is incompatible with the climate promises your Administration made and we are already running out of time to avoid the most catastrophic outcomes of the climate crisis. Warming twice as fast as the United States average, Alaska is already reeling from climate change. Willow will produce over 250 million metric tons of CO2 over the next 30 years -- increasing fossil fuel emissions on federal lands while putting the local region at risk of a spill.

Thank you for considering my opinion to immediately stop seismic testing for the Willow Project and put people and the planet ahead of ConocoPhillips and other Big Oil polluters.
