Protect sea turtles like Tama -- DEMAND the EPA address the plastic pollution crisis now!

When rescuers found baby Tama, a green sea turtle hatchling, his little stomach was packed FULL of deadly plastic pollution.

Tama survived -- but many other sea creatures aren’t so lucky. Ingesting hard, toxic plastic particles is dooming nearly 100,000 creatures to agonizing deaths every year, and greedy corporations are largely to blame. On top of that, the air and water nearby communities rely on is often contaminated by the toxic byproducts of the manufacturing and recycling processes. Plastic manufacturers and their partners in the fossil fuel industry are pumping out MORE single-use plastics and polluting communities just for the sake of profits!

With 50-75 TRILLION pieces of plastic floating in our oceans, we urgently need the Environmental Protection Agency to hold Big Plastic and Big Oil accountable for the damage they’ve caused. It’s the only way to protect sea creatures like Tama from plastic poisoning and painful death.

Dear EPA Administrator Regan,

By now it should be clear that plastic is a nightmare for our planet and everything that lives on it. However, plastic manufacturers and their fossil fuel industry partners continue to worsen the plastic pollution crisis.

This ongoing problem is turning our oceans into toxic soup, threatening the lives of vulnerable marine animals like our beloved sea turtles. What’s more, plastics are a threat to all ocean ecosystems and the human communities that depend on them.

Ninety-nine percent of plastic is made from fossil fuels. As the climate crisis necessitates a global shift to clean energy, fossil fuel companies have a vested interest in increasing plastic production in order to extract more profits at the expense of our planet. This vested interest is driving a disturbing increase in the production of single-use plastics, which inevitably end up in our oceans.

Individual efforts at recycling single-use plastics are not enough to stop this crisis. This problem must be addressed at the level of production. The corporations responsible must urgently change their business model to avoid severe ecosystemic breakdown, the poisoning of the marine food web and the consequences for human health.

For the sake of our oceans, our communities and our planet, I urge you to take action now to hold Big Plastic and Big Oil companies accountable and stop even more plastic pollution from entering our fragile oceans.
