Ban toxic pesticide chlorpyrifos before it’s too late!

Chlorpyrifos is back on the market due to a court ruling. Now, this toxic pesticide could continue harming bees and children if it’s applied to produce around the country.

The EPA previously banned this pesticide because its risks are well known. We can ban it again – but we need your help to do it.

Dear EPA,

I am writing to urge you to immediately reinstate the ban on chlorpyrifos that the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned. Exposure to chlorpyrifos is linked to increased risk of a range of serious health problems in children including autism spectrum disorder, attention disorders, and reduced IQ and working memory.

Chlorpyrifos has been banned in the European Union and Canada, and prior to the federal ban, it was banned in several states — California, New York, Maryland, and Hawaii. Corteva, the primary manufacturer of the chemical, discontinued production of chlorpyrifos in 2020.

The EPA’s own scientific review determined that:

-	Food exposures exceed safe levels, with children ages 1-2 exposed to levels of chlorpyrifos that are 140 times what the EPA deems safe. 
-	There is no safe level of chlorpyrifos in drinking water. 
-	Chlorpyrifos is found at unsafe levels in the air at schools and homes in rural communities. 
-	Workers who mix and apply chlorpyrifos are exposed to unsafe levels, even with maximum personal protective equipment and engineering controls.
-	There are effective alternatives for pest management that are less toxic for children, farmworkers and rural communities.

Chlorpyrifos is also linked to harm to pollinators. It is highly acutely toxic to bees, and even low levels of exposure can impact honey bees’ learning and memory, which may threaten their survival.

Please follow the science and reinstate a ban on chlorpyrifos.
