Tell the U.S. Export-Import Bank: NO toxic petrochemical project in Malaysia!

We are running out of time to make our voices heard.

We’re also running out of time to reverse the super-heating of our planet by emissions released like the ones from this proposed plant in Malaysia. That’s why I need your help right now!

If this plant moves forward with U.S. support, Malaysian communities and the entire planet will suffer as a result. We say NO MORE!

Dear Chair Reta Jo Lewis,

Please do not finance the Malaysia petrochemical project. This project is both a disaster for the local communities and the climate! The U.S. government should not be using taxpayer dollars to subsidize petrochemical companies.

This project will not help the Malaysian people, but will likely make their lives worse. Petrochemical plants contaminate air and water with pollution and exacerbate the climate crisis.

Moreover, President Biden made a commitment to end overseas fossil fuel finance. As a member of his administration, I urge you to not break this commitment by supporting this project. This project will help increase the world’s dependence on fossil fuels and make limiting global warming to 1.5°C even more difficult.

Finally, you are making a decision based on documents that are over four years old. The environmental and social assessments that do exist are also horribly insufficient. The human rights impact assessment is woefully insufficient, no alternative analyses exist, and the community engagement has not been continuous and sustained with the most recent meeting occurring four years ago.

For these reasons, I urge you to oppose any financing of the proposed petrochemical project in Malaysia. I appreciate you taking my views into account.
