Here are the facts: Beloved sea creatures like otters CAN’T SURVIVE without a healthy habitat and a stable food source. But the mega-polluting cruise industry is ripping that away by dumping TOXIC waste into the marine habitats otters need to thrive. From releasing MILLIONS of gallons of petroleum waste directly into our oceans to dumping bacteria and virus-ridden wastewater – cruise ships are a major threat, and are big contributors to otters being pushed into SICKNESS and DECLINE.

It doesn’t end there. From harming crucial fish stocks to filling the air with heavy fuel fumes, cruise ships are wreaking havoc on the health and livelihoods of coastal communities. Worse, some cruise corporations are attacking communities’ legal rights to fight back!

We have to hold Big Cruise accountable for the harms this dirty industry has caused. That’s why we must DEMAND urgent action to protect otters, our oceans and coastal communities before it’s too late.

Attention: EPA Administrator Regan

The mega-polluting cruise industry has gotten away with harming our oceans and the biodiversity they contain for far too long. Unfortunately, much of this pollution is still legal. But the damage to our planet, communities, and beloved animals like otters is too great to ignore.

Otters are at serious risk. Right now, we’re losing this essential keystone species to sickness and death – and cruise pollution is a big contributor to their alarming population decline. For example, Southern sea otters occupy only about 13% of their historic range!

The toxic waste that cruise ships casually dump into our oceans, including  acidic wastewater, are damaging the fragile ocean habitats that otters need to thrive. But the cruise industry is going even further and EXCEEDING the limits of legal pollution with many instances of illegal dumping. Worse, when these companies are caught breaking the law, they can easily get away with paying relatively small fines.

Our oceans and the communities who live and work near our coastlines deserve so much better than this. But cruise corporations are degrading the quality of life for our port communities with their ongoing massive pollution. In addition to dumping toxic sludge directly into our ocean waters, cruise ships constantly spew toxic particulate pollution into the air. As a result, port communities suffer higher rates of respiratory disease and more. It’s clear: cruise companies are raking in profits and leaving our planet and our communities paying the true price.

It’s time to hold this industry accountable before their massive pollution problem causes irreparable damage to the ocean ecosystems that feed and protect otters, provide the basis of coastal communities’ livelihoods, and play a vital role in maintaining stable food and weather systems worldwide. Make regulating the cruise industry a top priority now for the sake of our planet and everything that depends on it.
