Sodium hydroxide is a caustic chemical used as an ingredient in drain cleaners. It causes chemical burns on contact with skin and can severely harm the health and development of marine animals.
A group of researchers have submitted a proposal to dump 16,500 gallons of sodium hydroxide into the Gulf of Maine, a region frequented by at least 8 different endangered species – including leatherback sea turtles!
Donald Trump’s EPA could approve this project, threatening coastal communities and desecrating marine ecosystems. You only have a few more days to submit your comment to the EPA before the February 14th deadline!
