Seismic airgun blasting has been shown to harm everything from tiny zooplankton to fish to dolphins. If Congress does not take a stand now, our oceans and climate will be further thrown out of balance. We need your help to turn up the heat to protect Atlantic marine animals.

Dear Representative:

I was alarmed to hear that NOAA Fisheries plans to allow five companies to conduct seismic surveying in a huge blast zone that stretches from New Jersey to Florida. I am extremely opposed to the exploration of our oceans for expanded offshore drilling. Seismic airgun blasting would be disastrous for whales, dolphins and other marine life, threatening them with serious injury and potentially even death.

I am also extremely opposed to the expansion of offshore drilling activities in our EEZ, which we expect to see in the next iteration of Trump’s Five Year Plan rewrite. We remember disasters like BP’s Deepwater Horizon and Exxon Valdez, which have lasting consequences for human health, marine life and ocean dependent industries. We can’t afford any increased risk of oil spills.

I ask that you sign on to Congressmen Rutherford and Beyer’s bipartisan letter opposing offshore oil and gas drilling and exploration and do all that you can to protect our coasts from potentially deadly seismic airgun blasting and expanded offshore drilling in the EEZ.
