Help send 50,000 signatures to Senate leaders: Demand they reopen the government without a penny for the wall!

The impacts of the shutdown are growing by the day. People who already had to cut back on holiday gifts for their children and grandchildren are now looking for other places to trim their budgets -- from music lessons to groceries. The FDA can’t test our food to ensure that it’s safe. Communities are put in harm’s way, with no EPA inspectors to check industrial polluters. National parks are piling up with trash.

Make no mistake, this government shutdown is not about border security. It is not about protecting Americans. It is about Trump and his ego. So we need engaged progressives like you to make your voices heard and tell Senate leaders that you won't stand for them enabling Trump to hold the government and Americans hostage.

Dear Senator, 
I am reaching out not as a Republican or Democrat, but as a concerned citizen. Over the past 2 years of the Trump presidency we have seen unprecedented erosion of our cherished institutions and a true degradation of our country's moral fiber at the highest levels of government. This government shutdown, the longest in history, is the culmination of “leaders” refusing to stand up to the narcissistic tendencies of the man in the Oval Office, Donald Trump. It is time that that stop. My fellow Americans are suffering -- federal workers have been furloughed or forced to work without pay and the health millions of others is perpetually put at risk due to the closure of key institutions like the EPA and FDA. It’s time these partisan games end and you all stand up to Trump.

The Senate is constitutionally independent of the executive branch. It can and should pass the funding bills that have passed the House and received overwhelming bipartisan support just a few weeks ago in the Senate.

You and your colleagues were elected to serve us the people, not Donald Trump. So I am demanding that you stand up to his authoritarian tactics. Pass the funding bills. Reopen the government. And do not give him a penny for his racist wall.
