I am writing to you today to urge you to oppose Rep. Paul Gosar’s new bill to strip Endangered Species Act protections from Mexican gray wolves. This reckless legislation would end critical recovery efforts, halt genetic rescue through captive releases, reduce monitoring, and open the door to indiscriminate killing — threatening the survival of this rare and iconic species.

Mexican gray wolves remain one of the most endangered mammals in North America, with only 286 in the wild and dangerously low genetic diversity. Delisting them now would ignore the best available science and violate the ESA’s core purpose: to protect species at risk of extinction.

The ESA has saved over 99% of listed species from extinction. Don’t let politics undermine one of our most successful conservation laws. Please protect Mexican gray wolves — and the integrity of the ESA — by rejecting this bill.
